## 2\. RISK EVALUATION
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow a remote attacker to
send TCP SYN packages, causing a resource exhaustion condition that would
cause the device to become unavailable.

The following versions of NPort, a serial network interface, are affected:
* NPort 5210, 5230, and 5232 Versions 2.9 build 17030709 and prior.

allowing for a denial-of-service condition.

## 4\. MITIGATIONS
Moxa recommends that users upgrade to the latest firmware version, which can
be found at:

NCCIC recommends users take defensive measures to minimize the risk of
exploitation of this vulnerability. Specifically, users should:
* Minimize network exposure for all control system devices and/or systems, and ensure that they are [not accessible from the Internet](/ics/alerts/ICS-ALERT-10-301-01).
* Locate control system networks and remote devices behind firewalls, and isolate them from the business network.
* When remote access is required, use secure methods, such as Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), recognizing that VPNs may have vulnerabilities and should be updated to the most current version available. Also recognize that VPN is only as secure as the connected devices.
